Musical Chair Scavenger Hunt

Topic Progress:

Do not perform this interaction by reading these instructions alone!  Make sure you have practiced ahead of time!

What you will need:

The Scavenger Hunt card

A high energy upbeat song that you can repeat several times.

4-8 volunteers

Prizes prepared for all contestants (glow sticks/beads)

Step By Step:

  1. Prepare your song and your list
  2. As the previous song ends, compliment the dancers and ask the guests to clear the dance floor for a game!
  3. Find your 8 contestants, if this is too difficult with your group, find 4, the first item they will find is another contestant, bringing you up to 8.  Additionally, each contestant must bring their own chair to the dance floor.
  4. Have them all sit and Announce the game name to the guests.
  5. Rules:
    1. The game is both musical chairs and a scavenger hunt.
    2. For the musical chairs, it means that when the music starts, everyone must get out of their seats and when it stops, everyone must have a seat, anyone who can’t find one is out.
    3. For the Scavenger Hunt, you will call out an item from the scavenger list, and then they must quickly find whatever item you announce and bring it back to the dance floor and sit in a chair.  When all the chairs are filled, the music stops.
    4. After the first round, the contestants must return the item they found to the place they found it, without the help of the person they got it from (Sometimes you may choose to give them a different instruction, such as, if they found a dollar, have them bring it to the bartender tip jar instead of returning it. Or if it is edible and non alcoholic, they need to eat it or drink it, don’t bug anyone who doesn’t do this.)
    5. Items cannot be from the contestant themselves, they must get them elsewhere.
  6. Ask the audience if everyone understands the rules! (you will have to play judge and re-instruct on the rules from time to time, but the chaos can be fun!
  7. When you are ready to start, choose an item, announce it and then start the music and yell “Go”! Give anyone who starts before the music a hard time and have them sit back down,
  8. Each time you start the music and they go and find the item you call out, you must remove one chair.
  9. Once you are down to the last two contestants, give them a very difficult item to find like the bride or groom, or each other’s left shoe.
  10. At the end, announce the winner, give all contestants a prize and begin dancing again.
